The event will benefit the True Light Family Resource Center., located at 31ST & Charlotte. Community Activist and singer Mary Moore called on her colleagues and they said “YES.” Never before have so many notable and celebrated women in Jazz, Blues, R & B, Classical, Gospel, Dance and Spoken Word performed in a single event on 18th & Vine. That is what inspired Ms. Mary Moore to dub this event “The Gathering.”

The performers include: Ida McBeth, Lisa Henry, Kelley Hunt, Pamela Baskin-Watson, Mary Moore, Toni Oliver (Oliver School of Music) and Living Legend & Elder Statesman Luqman Hamza. I couldn’t be more humble and proud of our generous artists in Kansas City,” says Ms. Moore.

Ms Mary Moore has been the volunteer outreach activist for True Light, bringing food, clothing and personal care items, and conducting writing workshops over the last three years. During that time, she has watched the numbers of homeless women and children steadily increase. Those who live in the shelter have to leave every morning, and survive on the streets during the day and can only return at bedtime. The Emancipation Station Day Shelter is a place to come for a meal, to come inside protected from extreme weather conditions, to get a fresh change of clothes and receive a wide array of needs including diapers, bus tokens, assistance for housing and to pray.
